WV House passes drug death bill

The West Virginia House of Delegates approved a measure that makes it a crime to give someone a drug that results in their death. The proposal carries a felony penalty of up to three years in prison. The must be found t be acting with reckless disregard for the health of others.

South Charleston Memorial Ice Arena closed for a month

The South Charleston Memorial Ice Arena will be closed for more than a month. The evaporation and heat exchanger needs to be replaced, at an expense of 250-thousand-dollars. South Charleston Mayor Frank Mullens says, if all goes well, the ice arena will re-open in March.

Two people shot in Guyandotte

A man and woman are recovering from gunshot wounds at St. Mary’s Medical Center. They were shot in a domestic dispute in Guyandotte. The shooter, Brandy Hairston, is charged with malicious wounding and wanton endangerment.

Armored car employee accidentally shoots himself

An armored car employee was hurt when he was making a drop off at a Big Lots store in Prestonburg when he accidentally shot himself in the parking lot. The gun got lodged and accidentally discharged, hitting him in the stomach. He was flown to a West Virginia trauma center where he’s in stable condition.

Local attorney arrested in Nicaragua

A Charleston attorney, wanted on felony charges since 2016, is under arrest in Nicaragua. Bill Lester is accused of overcharging the state thousands of dollars for work that was never done. He billed state over 600-thousand-dollars over a two year period while he was working as a court appointed criminal lawyer.

Father indicted in infant’s death

A Ripley man has been indicted on charges in connection to the death of his infant daughter. Twenty-six-year-old Jeffrey Hoskins is charged with murder, and death of a child by child abuse. He confessed to shaking the baby too hard and choking her because she wouldn’t stop crying.

Man convicted of felony domestic violence

A Huntington man was convicted on seven felony counts stemming from a domestic violence incident in 2019. Twenty-four-year-old Jaquez White is accused of firing multiple shots at the Serenity House on 10th Avenue. One person was hit by the gunfire.

Former teacher’s aide facing battery charges

A former Wayne County school teacher’s aide is facing battery charges in an incident involving a special needs student. Donna Davis is accused of slapping pushing, and using clothes pins to pinch a six-year-old student at Kellogg Elementary.
