Charleston warming stations need voluteers

Volunteers are needed to staff Charleston’s warming stations when it’s fifteen-degrees or colder. The Kanawha Valley Collective said nine warming stations opened their doors last winter and at least 12 volunteers are needed per night.

More grandparents are raising grandchildren

There is a growing nationwide trend of grandparents raising their grandchildren. More than 50-percent of students in some West Virginia counties are not being raised by their parents. The state is second in the nation in the percentage of children being raised by grandparents, primarily driven by the opioid crisis.

Lawmakers hear WVU’s economic forecast

Lawmakers, on the first day of the legislative session, heard WVU’s state economic forecast for the next four years. The report calls for the economy to expand just over point-two-percent, and job growth will be volatile for the next two years, dropping thousands of jobs, as construction on the Mountain Valley Pipeline is completed.

Hardy County couple arrested for arson

A Hardy County couple is under arrest in connection to a storage facility fire last month in Petersburg. Thirty-four-year-old Hunter Largent and 45-year-old Marci Lyn Largent are facing arson charges. Additional charges are pending for causing injury to several firefighters who put out the fire.

Baby’s foster mother takes stand in parent’s murder trial

Infant Dylan Groves’ foster mother took the stand in the trial against his parents Jessica and Daniel Groves. They’re accused of killing their six-month-old son, who was found in a well last June. Foster mother Andrea Bowling gave emotional testimony about the 12 days spent with the baby.

More than 1,000 doses of meth sezied in traffic stop

A man and a woman are facing drug charges for supplying large amounts of meth to three different counties. Thirty-six-year-old George Stacy and 33-year-old Brittany Cassady were taken into custody after officers seized more than one-thousand doses of meth during a traffic stop.
