Marshall University is refunding students over four-and-a-half-million-dollars in fees for services they aren’t utilizing while campus is closed. Students will be reimbursed over 37-percent for meal plans, housing, parking and rec fees.
Work Force West Virginia’s second call center is open to handle the record number of unemployment claims. A third call center will go online soon. Ninety-thousand people filed for unemployment benefits in in March, and almost 36-thousnd claims have been filed already in April.

Gov. Jim Justice expanded his coronavirus hot spot restrictions to Marion County this week after the area reported a jump in cases. Mountain Mission delivered 70 emergency food boxes Thursday afternoon to elderly homebound residents at three Charleston-area living facilities. The food went to Brooks Manor, Agsten Manor and Jacob Arbors.
Local volunteer fire departments will soon be receiving “hero grants” for their work during the coronavirus pandemic. The Kanawha County Commission will be issuing emergency checks for $3,000 each to 27 volunteer fire departments in the county. The grants can be used for purchasing supplies for the department or helping its members during the crisis.
