Man killed in Williamstown fire

The West Virginia State fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a deadly fire in Williamstown. Fifty-six-year-old Wayne Cunningham died in a fire at his home on Williams Highway. Two other people escaped with minor injuries.

Woman sentenced to prison for child’s death

A Raleigh County woman will spend up to 25-years in prison for the death of her five-month-old daughter. Ariel Bennett was convicted of child neglect. She claimed to have rolled over her daughter and suffocated her. The prosecutor said Bennett was in a “drunken stupor” when it happened.

Three inmates charged with cold case murder

Three Mount Olive Correctional Center inmates are being charged in connection to a cold case murder that happened in 1989 at the former Harrison County Correctional Center. National Scout Jamboree canceled for 2021

The National Scout Jamboree won’t happen next July at the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve located in Fayette County. The Boy Scouts of America is postponing the event due to the “uncertain nature of future conditions” of the COVID-19 pandemic. The original dates were July 21-31, 2021. No new dates were announced.

Marshall QB enters transfer portal

Marshall University’s starting quarterback, Isaiah Green, is entering the transfer portal. Green has been the starting quarterback for the past two years. The Thundering Herd has four more quarterbacks on the roster. Their 2020 season is set to begin August 29th at East Carolina.

School Clothing Allowance program delayed

DHHR’s Bureau for Children and Families is delaying the application period for the School Clothing Allowance program. It will move to an electronic format to allow recipients to make online purchases to reduce the COVID-19 risk. More than 42-thousand West Virginia families receive a school clothing allowance.
