Carpet store destroyed in fire

Valley Carpets in St. Albans was destroyed in a fire. The blaze broke out early Monday morning. No one was hurt. A cat that stayed in the building died in the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Credible threat made against AEP

American Electric Power is on high alert after a credible threat was made against the company. The same group that staged a protest at Trans Canada Energy last week, made a threat to the Kanawha Valley’s energy infrastructure.

Free meals for students will continue

School nutrition programs will continue throughout the state. Kanawha County high schools will serve as food prep sites, and bag lunches will be available from 10:30 a.m to 12:30 p.m. each day. Schools closed until March 27th

All West Virginia public schools are closed, and classes are canceled through at least March 27th. The closure includes all extracurricular activities. The state Department of Education is advising districts to deliver instruction through alternative methods beginning Thursday.
