City of Charleston received $3.6 million in CARES Act funding

The City of Charleston will receive three-point-six-million-dollars in CARES Act funding to cover COVID-19 related expenses in March and April. The money will cover payroll expenses for police, fire, and sanitation workers, and expenses for cleaning supplies and personal protective equipment.

Fisherman find body in Kanawha River

Police are investigating after two fisherman found a body in the Kanawha River. The body was found about 50-feet from the Mountain Pie Company. The medical examiner’s office is working to identify the man and the cause of death.

A Cottageville man says he was cleaning his gun when he accidentally shot and killed his 11-year-old niece. Thirty-six-year-old Andrew Jackson shot himself in the hand during the incident. He is a convicted felon and not legally permitted to own a gun.
