News Staff The U.S. Senate passed a bill requiring more accountability at the VA. Senator Joe Manchin co-sponsored the VA Provider Accountability Act that requires the VA to report major adverse actions committed by medical providers.
West Virginia officials are warning that there may not be enough revenue to give teachers and public employees a raise. Tax collections were up in December, but state revenue is still more than thirty-million-dollars below expectations. They’re recommending that Governor Justice shouldn’t include a pay raise in his budget.
The FAA is conducting a study at more than a dozen airports to see if they can operate with a part-time control tower. Yeager Airport is part of the study, and it could result in the air traffic control tower going dark between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. to cut costs.
One person is in the hospital after a shooting in the parking lot at the Days Inn Motel in Bradley. The victim is in stable condition. No arrests have been made.
A man is under arrest for an East End home invasion. Clinton Buracker-Simpson is accused of forcing his way into a Nancy Street apartment and taking cash and a cell phone. The victim was knocked to the ground, but he wasn’t hurt.
A Detroit man is wanted in connection to a New Year’s Day shooting that injured seven people. Thirty-year-old Kymonie Davis is charged with of wanton endangerment and malicious wounding in a shooting at Kulture Hookah Bar. Two of the victims are in critical condition.
Thursday marked 14 years since a blast trapped 13 miners deep in the Sago Mine in Upshur County. Police are looking for a Logan County man who shot and wounded a man when they got into an argument on Campfire Road in Whitman. Fifty-five-year-old Ronnie Cooper is wanted for attempted murder. The victim is recovering at Cabell-Huntington Hospital.
