Governor Justice signs Juneteenth proclamation

After weeks of protests, Juneteenth was a day of celebration. Hundreds of people showed up for events yesterday on Magic Island and at a West Side Church. June 19th commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. Governor Justice signed a proclamation recognizing Juneteenth in West Virginia.

Power rate hike postponed

Your power bill won’t be going up for at least two more months. A rate increase was scheduled for July 1st, but Wheeling Power and Appalachian Power have agreed to delay the increase until at least September. The PSC will issue a final order by the end of June.

State Fair of West Virginia canceled

The State Fair of West Virginia is being canceled. The fair board made an abrupt change and canceled the event for 2020. Governor Justice announced last week that the fair was a go, and within hours of that announcement information started to surface about a COVID-19 outbreak at a church in Greenbrier County.

Man found dead in motel room identified

Authorities have identified a man who was found dead in a motel room last week. Fifty-nine-year-old Royce Daugherty Junior was found dead last Friday at the Budget Host Inn in Malden. The cause of death Is still under investigation.

Man wanted for fleeing from traffic stop

Wayne police are looking for a man who took off during a traffic stop. Jason McClure led officers on pursuit on Route-152, and crashed just outside of Wayne. He ran into the woods, and officers weren’t able to find him.

Democratic Attorney General’s race still up in the air

Labor lawyer Sam Petsonk is declaring victory in the Democratic primary for West Virginia Attorney General over Delegate Isaac Sponaugle. The two were locked in a race that was too close to call. Fewer than two-hundred votes separated them. Sponagle says he’s not conceding.

Churches Continue to Deal With Outbreaks

Coronavirus outbreaks were linked to three churches in West Virginia this week. Greenbrier County’s Graystone Baptist Church has at least 33 cases and Ohio County’s First Baptist Church has four positives, though many tests are still pending in both counties. New Sporting Goods Store Will Add Jobs

A new sporting goods store is coming to Putnam County this summer. Michigan-based Dunham’s Sports will open in the Liberty Square Shopping Center in Teays Valley. The Putnam County Chamber of Commerce said the store is expected to open by the end of July. Dunham’s Sports currently has 230 stores in 22 states.
