News Staff Kanawha County deputies are investigating a suspicious death. Officers responded to a disturbance call at the Budget Host Inn in Malden, and found a man dead in his motel room. The coroner’s office is working to determine the cause of death.
The West Virginia State Fair is on. The board of directors voted to hold the fair in mid-August at the state fairgrounds in Greenbrier County. Under the governor’s reopening plan, fairs and festivals can resume on July 1st with social distancing guidelines.
A 50-year-old Mineral County man has died from COVID-19, bringing the state’s death toll to 86. There are five new cases of the virus for a total of over 22-hundred. The positive test rate is below two-percent.
In-person graduation ceremonies will be allowed beginning June 22nd. The ceremonies will take place at outdoor venues only, and students will have to stay six feet apart. Laidley Field is one of the main venues being considered.
Two people are in the hospital after a car crashed into a townhouse at Rebecca Street and 7th Avenue in North Charleston. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
Police are looking for 27-year-old Michael Levandowski. He stopped reporting to his probation officer in January. Levandowski is on probation for threatening a Lincoln County Family Court Judge. He may be homeless in the Charleston area.
Cabell County voters will go back to the polls later this summer for a special election on a school bond referendum. The school board is asking for over 87-million-dolars for a long list of projects, including three new school buildings.
Huntington police are searching for what they think is a car in the Ohio River. Sonar located a large object in the water near the Harris Riverfront Park boat docks. They are bringing in a dive team to investigate.
Confederate monuments are under increasing scrutiny, but Governor Justice says it will take legislative action to remove the statue of Civil War General Stonewall Jackson from the Capitol grounds. The statue was a target of protestors last weekend.
A long-term care facility in Wayne County where dozens of patients and employees tested positive for COVID-19 is celebrating being virus-free this week.
