Toyota is expanding its plant in Putnam County. The company will spend over seventy-million-dollars at Toyota West Virginia in Buffalo on a hybrid transaxle production line that is set to start in 2024. The West Virginia House of Delegates passed a bill that could lower personal income tax. The bill includes a ten-percent cut for each income bracket, and establishes a savings fund for possible future cuts. The bill now goes to the Senate.
Marshall University is departing from Conference USA on June 30th. The university plans to join the Sun Belt Conference in October and will join Southern Mississippi, Old Dominion and James Madison as new members in the Sun Belt.
New Marshall University President, Brad Smith, gave his first report to the Board of Governors. Marshall’s enrollment is down, but the university’s retention rate is up.
The Black Rock Wind Farm is generating power. The nearly two-dozen wind turbines along the Allegheny Front between Grant and Mineral County went on line this week. The facility is Clearway Energy’s third wind farm in the state, and will generate enough power to supply 55-thousand homes a year.
An elderly man is recovering in the hospital after being hit by a car while trying to cross Venable Avenue near the Kanawha City Community Center. The driver did stop a few blocks away. So far, no charges have been filed.

A Buckhannon woman is under arrest after surveillance video at CAMC Women and Children’s Hospital showed her abusing her one-month-old son. The baby is in stable condition, but has serious injuries. The mother Twenty-nine-year-old Ashten Teets is charged with child abuse.
