Hunting and Fishing show returns this weekend

West Virginia’s hunting and fishing show is back this weekend. Last year’s show was canceled due to the pandemic. Organizers say about 175 exhibitors are scheduled to participate. The show runs through Sunday at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center.

State of the State address on Thursday

Governor Justice plans to deliver his State of the State address on Thursday. The governor was supposed to give his address on January 12th, but the speech was postponed after he tested positive for COVID.

Gov. Justice taking wait and see approach to school mask ban bill

A bill moving through the state legislature would prohibit mask mandates in public schools. Governor Justice says he will wait on the proposal’s final outcome before deciding how to act. Justice has left the decision on masks up to the individual counties. Around two-thirds of West Virginia county school districts require masks in schools now.

Kanawha County sets daily COVID record

Kanawha County is setting another daily COVID record with over nine-hundred new cases. It’s the third time this month the county has set a daily case record. There are over three-thousand active cases county wide.

COVID-19 hospitalizations near record level

Tanios trial set for June 6th

West Virginian George Tanios and his accomplice Julian Khater’s trial date has been set for June 6th. The pair is accused of working together to assault U.S. Capitol police officers with pepper spray. Tanios is accused of buying and carrying the pepper spray, and Khater is accused of spraying the officers.

The family of mobster Whitey Bulger had their case against the Bureau of Prison tossed out of court. Natural Resources officers tapped for prison duty

Around fifty Natural Resource officers are being trained to work in West Virginia jails and prison. More than a quarter of the jobs were vacant before a COVID spike this week. Starting in February, Natural Resources police officers will work in support jobs, like perimeter security, guard towers, and control rooms.
