Huntington Fire Chief retiring

Hunting Fire Chief Jan Rader is retiring after more than twenty years. She was the first woman to serve as chief of a professional fire department in West Virginia. Rader will transition into a new position as director of the mayor’s Council on Public Health and Drug Control Policy.

Abandoned church destroyed in fire

A fire destroyed an abandoned church on Pacific Street. No one was hurt. There has been a rash of fires in abandoned building in Charleston and other cities. Officials blame the blaze on transients trying to stay warm.
