Coal miner killed in fall

A coal miner is dead after falling while he was working above a beltline in the prep plant at Ohio County Coal Company’s Ohio County Mine, located in Benwood. He fell about thirty-feet and died at the scene. Both state and federal mine safety agencies are investigating.

Woman accused of passing stopped school bus

A Mingo County woman is under arrest for passing a school bus just seconds after a student crossed the road. Cassidy Browning is charged with obstructing an officer, leaving the scene of an accident, and overtaking a school bus.

West Virginia counties under State of Preparedness

All fifty-five West Virginia counties are declaring a state of preparedness head of a winter storm that is expected to arrive Sunday evening. Coordinating agencies are on standby to report to the State Emergency Operations Center. Up to eight inches of snow could fall in some areas. Charleston could see up to four inches.

Vacant House Fire is Under Investigation

Crews responded to a house fire early Wednesday morning in Charleston. The fire was reported about 4:15 a.m. in the 800 block of Larchmont Drive, according to Kanawha County dispatchers and the home appeared to be vacant. No injuries were reported.
