A spike in COVID cases will not change the plans for how lawmakers operate during the 2022 legislative session, which begins Wednesday. Legislative leaders say the start of the session will be business as usual until circumstance warrant some kind of change.

Gov. Justice pushing for 4th COVID shot

Governor Justice is asking the CDC for permission to offer a fourth COVID shot to people fifty and older, as well as essential workers. Justice pointed to Israel, which last month became one of the first countries to approved a fourth dose. About half of West Virginia’s population is fully vaccinated.

Berkeley County needs school bus drivers

The need for school bus drivers in the Berkeley County School District has reached a critical need. The district’s head of transportation says they need thirty drivers right away. Relaxing the requirements for bus drivers has not resolved the staffing shortage. Some routes had to be cancelled this week because no drivers were available.

Man arrested for deadly Christmas Day beating

A Parkersburg man is facing a malicious assault charged for beating a man on Christmas Day who later died. Thirty-seven-year-old Bradley Wright is accused of hitting the victim with a baseball bat and knocking him to the ground. He was flown to a Pittsburgh area hospital where he died this week.

Fire damages body shop

Fire damaged a Huntington body shop. The blaze broke out at Swell’s Auto Body on Eighth Avenue. Flames reached the ceiling, and were likely caused by a faulty heating unit. No one was hurt. The building suffered smoke and water damage.

Couple facing child endangerment charges

A Portsmouth couple is facing child endangerment charges and multiple drug charges after the death of an 18-month-old girl. The details of the child’s death have not been released. Police searched two homes and found meth, heroine, marijuana, scales and 42-hundred dollars in cash.
