Ohio Valley University no long able to confer degrees

The state Higher Education Policy Commission is revoking the ability of Vienna-based Ohio Valley University to confer degrees. The school says it will not offer classes in the spring semester. OVU has been on probation for a number of issues, including financial and record keeping problems.

Ashland Walmart closed for COVID cleaning

Walmart in Ashland is closed for the weekend to sanitize the store. The company says it’s part of an ongoing initiative to clean and sanitize their stores in response to an uptick in COVID numbers. The store will reopen Sunday morning.

COVID-19 case double since Thanksgiving

West Virginia’s COVID-19 numbers are sky rocketing. Active cases have doubled since Thanksgiving to over nine-thousand. That’s up from around 76-hundred last week. Ramp harvesting no longer allowed at New River Gorge

Ramp harvesting will no longer be allowed within New River Gorge National Park and Preserve, Gauley River National Recreation Area, and Bluestone National Scenic River starting on Jan. 1. Park biologists determined the ramp population is too small to support harvesting, and that continued collection would jeopardize the spcies.

WV EMS director suspended

The state’s director of the office of Emergency Medical Services is off the job. Brian Shreves was suspended this week while an investigation is on-going. The Department of Health and Human Resources Bureau for Public Health is no saying why Sreves was suspended, or the nature of the investigation.

Man accused of falsely claiming student had a gun

A man is under arrest for falsely reporting a student at Vinton High School had a gun. The school was placed on lockdown as a precaution. Thirty-nine-year-old Lonnie Mace Jr. made the call. Investigators say the false accusation stemmed from a family dispute.

Woman arrest after bag of drugs falls out of her pocket
