Hospital strike threatened

The service and maintenance union at Cabell Huntington Hospital is threatening to go on strike. The Service Employees International Union has nearly one-thousand members who voted this week to send a ten-day strike notice to the hospital. Pay and health insurance coverage are the two main issues.

State police are investigating after a homemade bomb was dismantled along the Ohio River near the Pleasants-Tyler County line. The device was found on a barge, and an explosives team was called in to remove it. The FBI is investigating. No one was hurt.

Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office part of Nation Drug Take Back Day

It is National Drug Take Back Day. The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office will have a deputy and each of the county’s five detachments to collect unused prescriptions. There is also a drug drop-off box at the Sheriff’s Office across the Kanawha County Courthouse. There will be several collection sites set up around the state.

Possible New Cable Provider in Charleston

Parkersburg’s CAS Cable would like to provide cable service in Charleston. CAS submitted an application to the city, which requires city council approval. Currently, Suddenlink is the only provider, and allowing CAS into the market could make TV, internet, and phone service more affordable.

Two inmates die at North Central Regional Jail

State Police are investigating why two inmates at the North Central Regional Jail in Doddridge County died, and another is in the hospital. An incident at the jail on Tuesday appears to have led to one inmate taking his own life. Another inmate was killed in a separate incident, which also seriously injured another prisoner.

Sam’s Hot Dog Stand closing after robberies

The Point Pleasant location of Sam’s Hot Dog Stand is permanently shutting it’s doors after two armed robberies. The store was targeted twice in the last two weeks, and the thieves got away with thousands of dollars. One man is under arrest. Police are looking for two more suspects.
