WV NAACP Pres. Owens Brown will fill vacant Senate seat

Governor Justice is naming West Virginia NAACP President, Owens Brown, to a vacant state Senate seat. He will take the place of Senator Bill Ihlenfeld, who was confirmed this week to be the federal prosecutor for northern West Virginia. Brown will be the first African-American man to serve in the Senate.

Man pleads guilty in connection to death of Charleston police officer

A man connected to the death of Charleston police officer Cassie Johnson will spend up to three-years in prison for his role in selling drugs to the man who pulled the trigger. Forty-five-year-old Richard Chapman pleaded guilty to possession with intent to deliver. He’s accused of selling drugs to Joshua Phillips before Johnson was shot.

Gov. Justice calls Legislature into special session

Governor Justice will call a special session of the Legislature starting Monday to complete the redistricting process. Lawmakers will alter state Senate districts, settle on 100 single-member House of Delegates districts and divide West Virginia into two congressional districts. The special session will also include allocating federal dollars for some state agencies.
