Cabell County apartment fire was arson

An apartment fire in Cabell County is being ruled arson. The blaze broke out Saturday night in the Altizer area. The fire was contained to one apartment, but several apartments sustained smoke and water damage, and several residents are displaced. One firefighter suffered a heat-related injury.

Kentucky regulators want the Justice family companies to pay a penalty and fix environmental problems at their eastern Kentucky coal mines. They’re asking a circuit court judge to enforce an agreement over reclamation violations, that includes a three-million-dollar penalty, plus interest.

Westover City Council members questioning mayor’s leadership

Marshall University Presidential candidates will visit campus

The Marshall University Presidential Search Committee will meet with candidates on campus, starting next week. The search committee has narrowed the list to five finalists. Candidates will visit the Huntington and South Charleston campus. Community receptions for each person will be open to the public. University of Charleston is COVID free

There are no active COVID cases on the University of Charleston campus. One student is home in isolation. UC is a private university, and requires students to be vaccinated. The vaccine is optional for employees, with 90% vaccinated. Unvaccinated people are subjected to weekly COVID-19 testing and must wear masks.

Putnam County BOE won’t change mask policy
