Clendenin it expanding

The town of Clendenin is expanding. The Kanawha County Commission approved the annexation of the future site of the new Clendenin Elementary School, being built off Wolverton Mountain Road. A section of Elk River up to the boat ramp is also included, but will not affect houses and business along the way.

More plantiffs added to transgender lawsuit

Two people are being added to a federal lawsuit that accuses West Virginia’s Medicaid and state employee health plans of unlawfully denying coverage for gender confirming care for transgender residents. The lawsuit says two transgender women were denied coverage for gender dysphoria.

COVID-19 numbers up tick

COVID-19 numbers continue to tick-up. The state is reporting nearly 27-hundred new cases of the virus over the past couple of days, and more 16-thousand active cases. More than one-thousand people are in the hospital, and almost three-hundred patients are in the ICU.

Strong numbers from Wall Street will keep PEIA premiums the same next year. The PEIA Finance Board says their investments have outperformed projections by almost 30-million-dollars this year. A strong reserve fund should help keep rates for members from going up in the new year.

Phillips murder trial delayed

The murder trial of Joshua Phillips is being delayed until after the first of the year. Phillips is accused of killing Charleston Police Officer Cassie Johnson last December. A spacing issue at the Kanawha County Courthouse, brought on by COVID-19 protocols, is the reason the is being rescheduled for January 10th.

School buses catch fire at bus garage

Ripley police and the State Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating a fire at a bus garage. When firefighters arrived, three buses were on fire, and a fourth has minor heat damage. No one was hurt.
