Health officials urge caution this Labor Day Weekend

The Kanawha-Charleston Health Department is urging people to be cautious this Labor Day weekend. Dr. Sherrie Young is reminding us to wash our hands, remain socially distant, and wear a mask indoors. The Health Department will have an additional holiday testing event on Sunday at their offices on Lee Street East.

WVU Faculty Senate calling for vaccination mandate

West Virginia University’s Faculty Senate is approving a resolution that supports mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations for all students and employees. It calls for mandatory vaccinations by January 1, 2022. More than 75-percent of students are already vaccinated, and over 70-percent of employees are vaccinated.

Active COVID-19 cases approaching 20,000

The West Virginia coronavirus task force is concerned that the spike in COVID-19 cases will overwhelm hospitals and force other procedures to be postponed. 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Blair Mountain

This week marks the one-hundredth anniversary of the Battle of Blair Mountain in Logan County. It was the largest labor uprising in US history. The United Mine Workers of America retraced the miners’ march from Marmet to Racine. At least sixteen men died in the twelve-day battle.

Police are looking for missing mother & daughter

State Police are looking for a mother and daughter who left Cross Lanes Thursday morning, and haven’t been heard from since.
