The Kanawha County Commission says the county is expected to reach 70% COVID-19 vaccination rate for first doses this week. The health department has been providing large-scale vaccination clinics, as well as offering daily vaccinations at the health department’s location.

Governor Justice will not be the boys’ basketball coach at Greenbrier East High School, where he’s already the girls coach. The Board of Education was concerned that Justice wouldn’t have enough time to coach both teams, govern the state, and help run his family business.

Capital High School is moving to remote learning for the rest of the week. The school district did not give a specific reason for classes going remote, but the Kanawha County Schools’ website shows nearly thirty active COVID-19 cases at the school. The school plans to return to in-person classes on Monday.

4-year-old found wandering outside apartment

A mother and her boyfriend are charged with child neglect after a four-year-old boy was found wandering alone outside his Ripley apartment. The mother she left the boy asleep in the apartment, and left to fill out a job application. Child Protective Services took custody of the boy.

5-year-old locked in trunk, in critical condition

The mother and father of a five-year-old boy are being charged with child neglect after the boy was found locked in the trunk of a car in Cottageville. The boy was found unconscious and is in critical condition. Three other children were removed from the home after officers found them living in squalid conditions.

Charleston mayor wants to give vaccinated city employees $500

Charleston Mayor Amy Goodwin wants the city to give five-hundred-dollars to every city employee who is fully vaccinated. She says the rising COVID numbers are alarming, and that more than six-hundred of the city’s nearly eight-hundred employees are considered essential workers. Goodwin expects the total cost of the proposal to be about $450,000.
