All Kanawha County Schools will require face masks starting Friday. Elementary schools are already wearing masks, and now the order is being extended to Pre-K through twelfth grade.

Two men in a drug investigation connected to the murder of Charleston police officer Cassie Johnson are pleading guilty to drug charges. Marshall Sharp and Richard Chapman are accused of selling meth to Joshua Phillips before Officer Johnson was shot.

A Wayne County man is under arrest for shooting a man in the back on Turkey Creek Road in Wilsondale. James Davis was hit in the head with a stick during an altercation. He got a gun out of his car and shot the man who hit him. The victims is expected to be okay.

The suspect in the KJ Taylor murder case is back in West Virginia. Nineteen-year-old Dekotis Thomas extradited from Ohio, where he was arrested in July. Thomas is accused of fatally shooting Taylor in April, and is also charged with the death of a woman in 2019.

West Virginia’s unemployment rate dropped to five-percent in July. That’s the lowest its been since January 2020, before the start of the pandemic. WorkForce West Virginia says less than 40-thousand people are unemployed.

Charleston police arrested 14 people after conducting a prostitution sting on Monday. Police say the sting after complaints from residents and business owners on the West Side. Fifty-two of West Virginia’s 55 counties are out of the green on the county alert map that is now dominated by red and orange. Eleven counties were in red including Nicholas, Clay, and Wayne. Twenty-nine counties were in orange including Kanawha, Putnam, Cabell, Lincoln, Boone, Raleigh, Logan, and Mingo.

Lincoln County schools started classes on Wednesday, and its Board of Education released new mask guidelines. The principal at Greenbrier East High School says Governor Justice is the leading candidate to become the head coach of the boys basketball team. The school board tabled the decision until later this month. There is doubt that Justice will get enough votes.

Classes start today at WVU, and students are required to wear masks in the classroom regardless of vaccination status. Around 85-hundred students, faculty and staff have not verified whether they are full vaccinated or have received a negative COVID test. A testing deadline is set for Friday.
