Justice family considers settlement with insurance company

The Justice family of companies is considering a settlement with an insurance company that claims the Justice family owes almost 170-thousand-dollars in claims for workers’ compensation and employers’ liability insurance policies. If they can reach an agreement, the case could be settled next month.

City Council settles lawsuit over dog bite

Charleston City Council voted to resolve a lawsuit in connection to a police dog that bit a homeless man. The case has been in court for more than a year. Johnny Barker was in the crawlspace of an abandoned home, when a police K-9 bit his leg. Barker will receive 45-thousand-dollars in compensation.

West Virginians getting COVID-19 booster shot

West Virginians with weakened immune systems are turning out to get a COVID-19 booster shot. The CDC is recommending a third dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines for people with cancer, organ transplants, and other medical issues. Federal health officials are expected to recommend booster shots for all Americans later this week.

Justice says it’s bad, but not bad enough for a mask mandate

There are almost six-thousand active COVID-19 cases in West Virginia, and more than three hundred-fifty people are in the hospital. Governor Justice says the situation is getting bad, and he’s encouraging more people to get vaccinated, but he says it’s not bad enough for him to justify a mask mandate.

ATV manufacturers tour Hatfield-McCoy Trails

Senator Joe Manchin gave ATV manufacturers a tour of the Hatfield-McCoy Trails. Executives from Polaris, Kawasaki, and Honda powersports rode the trails to see what West Virginia has to offer, and Manchin want the companies to consider manufacturing their products in the state.

Brown added to Charleston City Council

There is a new member on Charleston City Council. Ward-18 Councilman Will Laird announced his resignation Monday night, and Bobby Brown was nominated for the seat and unanimously approved. Brown is a retired City of Charleston employee and has lived in Kanawha City for more than forty-years.

Authorities release name of teenager killed on Sunday

The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office is releasing the name of the teenager who died on Sunday. Fourteen-year-old Da’nija Miller was shot at a home Ryan Drive in the Rutledge area. She was a freshman at Capital High School. Several people were detained for questioning.

Remnants of Fred will bring wind and rain

Governor Justice is issuing a State of Preparedness as more rain heads for the Mountain State. The remnants of Tropical Storm Fred will move in late this afternoon. We could see two to three inches of rain fall overnight into Wednesday morning. The storm could produce gusty winds, and possibly trigger a tornado warning.
