Gov. Justice working to save former Mylan plant

Governor Justice says he’s not ready to quit, and he says he is disappointed in the lack of federal help to keep the former Mylan Pharmaceutical plant open. The Governor says he is working like crazy to find another company to operate the plant and save 14-hundred jobs.

Two WV counties in red on COVID-19 alert map

Twenty of West Virginias fifty-five counties are in green on the state’s COVID-19 alert map. Wyoming joins Marshall in red, and eight counties are orange. COVID numbers continue to climb. There are over three-hundred-eighty new cases, and more than 28-hundred active cases of the virus. That’s nearly triple the number from a month ago.

Dog found shot in Cazy area ditch

A dog was found shot in a ditch in the Cazy area. He is peppered with buckshot. A Good Samaritan picked him up and took him to a vet. The Boone Animal Rescue Coalition is caring for the animal. Police are trying to find out who shot him.

Officers exposed to fentanyl

Several Ashland police officers were exposed to fentanyl powder. The officers were making a traffic stop and when the suspect resisted arrest, the fentanyl powder went into the air. They were treated and released.

Man arrested for setting Alum Creek fire

A man is under arrest for setting fire to a relative’s home in Alum Creek. The blaze broke out at a home on Meadow Lick Road, and was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived. The house is a total loss. Everyone made it out safely.

WV PSC approves upgrades to power plants

The Public Service Commission is giving its approval for upgrades to the John Amos, mountaineer, and Mitchell coal-fired power plants. The move should keep the plants operational through 2040. Your monthly power bill will go up almost forty-cents beginning September 1st.

Commissioner Salango Will Run for Re-Election

Kanawha County Commissioner Ben Salango announced he is running for re-election. Salango has been a commissioner since 2017 when he was appointed to a vacant seat, and was then elected in 2018.
