Majority of COVID Cases Are Not the Delta Variant, but Numbers Grow

West Virginia health officials reported two new COVID-19 deaths Wednesday and 382 new positive cases. The state Department of Health and Human Resources reported the deaths of a 75-year-old man from Cabell County and an 86-year-old man from Morgan County. Active cases were at 2,848 with 118 of those the Delta variant.

“Do it for Babydog” sweepstakes registration extended

The registration deadline for the “Do it for Babydog” vaccination sweepstakes is being extended because a system glitch caused registration to close early. The new deadline is this Sunday at midnight. The final round ow prize winners will be announced on Tuesday, August 10th.

COVID-19 cases more than double in two weeks

Active COVID-19 cases in West Virginia have more than doubled in two weeks. DHHR is reporting almost 26-hundred active cases, and five additional deaths. Fewer than twenty counties are in green on the state’s COVID-19 alert map. Marshall County is the only red county.

Man arrested for stealing ambulance

A man is under arrest for stealing an ambulance from CAMC General. Twenty-nine-year-old Christopher Werhle drove off from the hospital’s ER entrance and ditched the ambulance near the Greyhound Bus Station. He was later found on Leon Sullivan Way.

Nelsonville police officer dies in car crash

A Nelsonville, Ohio police officer is dead after crashing his car while responding to a shots fired call. Officer Scott Dawley got into a three-vehicle crash near the Rocky Boots Outlet store. The driver of the second car is in serious condition. The driver of the third car suffered minor injuries.

Man accused of murder extradited to WV

A man, accused of killing his 94-year-old grandfather, is back in West Virginia. Thirty-six-year-old Seth Donald was arrested in California over a year ago and was finally extradited back to Huntington. Donald confessed to the crime to California authorities. A hearing is scheduled for Thursday.

Mask guidance expected from WV BOE

The state Board of Education is expected to release guidance on masks this afternoon. The Kanawha Board of Education is requiring elementary school students to wear masks, but several counties like Putnam, Cabell, Lincoln and Logan are waiting for guidance from the state.
