Texas & Oklahoma leaving Big 12

The Big-12 will lose Texas and Oklahoma after the 2024 football season, if not sooner. Both schools confirm they will not renew their media rights, which expire in the summer of 2024. That leaves the future of the Big-12 in limbo for the remaining eight schools, including West Virginia.

Shifting colors on COVID-19 alert map

The colors continue to shift on the state’s COVID-19 alert map. Webster County moved from red to orange. Six counties are gold and eleven counties are yellow. West Virginia topped 15-hundred active cases for the first time in a month. Almost one-hundred patients are in the hospital.

Redistricting comment period starts this week

Public hearings about redistricting start this week. The first meeting will be held tonight at the Putnam County Judicial Building. West Virginia is losing a Congressional seat, so lawmakers will have to determine how to split the state in half.

Closing arguments start Tuesday in opioid epidemic trial

Closing arguments start today in the opioid epidemic trial. The City of Huntington and Cabell County claim drug distributors AmerisourceBergen, McKesson and Cardinal Health fueled the epidemic by dumping one-hundred-million pills into the area over the past ten years. The judge has set aside twelve hours for closing arguments.

Plans to relocate Duval students

Lincoln County school officials are working on a relocation plan after Duval Elementary and Middle School were closed because an engineering firm says the buildings are unsafe. Third through fifth graders will relocate to Hamlin PK-8 and sixth through eighth graders will go to the central office.

Person hurt in Cross Lanes fire

One person is in the hospital after an apartment in Cross Lanes. The blaze broke out in a second floor apartment on Stewart Park Drive. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
