Murder suspect will be extradited to WV

Kanawha County officials are signing extradition papers for the return of the man charged with killing Capital High School student K.J. Taylor. Nineteen-year-old Dekotis Thomas was arrested in Ohio, and will be brought back to Kanawha County to face murder charges.

BB guns fired at supermarket

An 18-year-old Sissonville man is under arrest, and two juveniles are facing charges for firing BB guns at the Save-a-Lot on Sissonville Drive. Some windows were broken. No one was hurt.

Full-time EMS coming to Teays Valley and Hurricane

Hurricane and Teays Valley will be launching their own EMS teams beginning in August. The new crews will provide faster response time, and more familiarity with the area. This comes amid an EMS employee shortage. Salaries will be covered by the fire departments with revenue generated by the ambulance calls.

Smoke affecting WV air quality

Smoke from wildfires out West is affecting the Mountain State. The air quality rating has significantly deteriorated, and is now considered unhealthy for sensitive groups. People with severe asthma or breathing difficulties should stay inside. A shift in the wind should push the smoke to the south later today.

New Hurricane High School principal

Hurricane High School has a new principal. Josh Caldwell has been named to the school’s top spot. He previously served as the Buffalo High School principal and replaces Paul McClanahan, who is taking a position with the Putnam County Board of Education.

Man leads police on two-state chase

A man is under arrest after leading police on a two-state chase. It started in Greenup County when deputies tried to arrest Adam Ray for outstanding warrants. He took off and lead officers on a pursuit from Greenup into Ironton. Ohio State Patrol used stop sticks to end the chase.

Man arrested for stealing from church youth group

A Hurricane man is under arrest for stealing from a utility trailer at Teays Valley Baptist Church. Twenty-eight-year-old Cameron Burks was caught on surveillance video breaking into the trailer and stealing items that belonged to the youth group. Burks is charged with breaking and entering and grand larceny.
