Coal mine cleanup will cost billions

A new report from the environmental group Appalachian Voices says the cleanup and reclamation of coal mines in seven states will cost billions. West Virginia and Kentucky have the largest bills coming due, and it could cost almost six-billion-dollars. Less than half of that is covered with existing bonds.

BOE approves charter school plan

The state Board of Education is approving a plan allowing virtual charter schools and the creation of the West Virginia Professional Charter School Board. Both components were approved by the legislature in an updated charter schools measure earlier this year.

Ohio University offering WV students in-state tuition

Ohio University is trying to bolster enrollment. Most West Virginia residents are now eligible for in-state tuition at Ohio University campuses beginning this year. To qualify a student must have been a legal resident of West Virginia for the previous twelve-months and complete the West Virginia Tuition Reciprocity Application.

Man charged in death of father

State police are investigating a shooting in Boone County. Troopers responded to a domestic situation in Nellis and arrest 24-year-old William Kinder for shooting and killing his father.

KCEAA investigating misuse of funds

The Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority is investigating the possible misuse of funds. An employee made allegations that involve the misuse of the employee relations fund. Employees contribute to the fund for Christmas parties and other events where public money can’t be used. It appears to county funds were involved.

Lincoln County EMS Asks to Buy New Ambulances

Lincoln County EMS is looking to replace six of its nine ambulances. EMS Director Trish Watson told WCHS TV all but two have more than 200,000 miles on them.
