WVU ranked 6th in Big 12 presason poll

West Virginia is ranked sixth in the Big-12 Football Preseason Poll. For the sixth year in a row, Oklahoma is projected to win the conference, followed by Iowa State and Texas. The Mountaineers are scheduled to play the Sooners September 25th in their Big-12 opener.

Corrections officer accused of bringing contraband into jail

A correctional officer in Scioto County is accused of being paid to bring drugs and tobacco into the jail. Forty-three-year-old John Aeh is accused of conspiring with several inmates and their friends and family to bring the contraband into the jail. Investigators found fentanyl, heroin, and meth with a street value of over two-thousand-dollars.

Charleston shutting down homeless camps

The City of Charleston is shutting down two homeless camps after giving people two weeks to leave. Charleston police will offer services through the CARE program at a camp under the Virginia Street Bridge, and another camp site behind the Kanawha City Auto Zone.

Woman pleads guilty to defrauding FEMA

A Clay County woman is pleading guilty to defrauding the federal government out of disaster assistance following the 2016 flood. She falsely claimed to be the owner of a home and received nearly five-thousand-dollar in home repair benefits from FEMA. She faces up to 30 years in prison.

Needle exchange law on hold

A temporary restraining order blocking West Virginia’s new needle exchange law will remain in effect, but a federal judge says the legal arguments he heard on Thursday were not enough to overturn the law. The bill was set to go into effect today.
