Charleston murder suspect arrested in Ohio

A man wanted for two Charleston murders in under arrest in Ohio after a two-hour standoff. Nineteen-year-old Dekotis Thomas set fire a house and threw a Molotov cocktail at officers. He eventually surrendered. Thomas is wanted for shooting KJ Taylor last April, and for shooting and killing a man on I-77 in 2019.

COVID-19 Delta variant diagnosed in Kanawha County

Health officials are confirming the first case of the COVID-19 delta variant in Kanawha County. A 33-year-old unvaccinated person is experiencing mild symptoms and is not hospitalized. The state is reporting over a dozen cased of the delta variant in six counties.

Judge asked to dismass lawsuit over transgender athlete ban

Education officials are asking a federal judge to dismiss a lawsuit challenging West Virginia’s new law that bans transgender athletes from competing in female sports. They say they can’t be held liable for the law, which they didn’t request and largely won’t be responsible for enforcing.

Garrison Ave. honorarily renamed for fallen officer

The street where fallen Charleston police officer Cassie Johnson was killed is now named in her honor. Garrison Avenue was honorarily renamed Patrolman Cassie Johnson Avenue. Johnson was shot in December 2020 while responding to a parking complaint.
