West Side Neighbors Call For More Patrols

West Side residents are calling for more enforcement after the latest shooting reported Monday. Police said Dana Stevenson shot at Tracy Jackson in the 800 block of Central Avenue after Jackson made a “hand gesture” toward Stevenson. National Youth Science Camp remains virtual

The National Youth Science Camp will be a virtual event again this year. One-hundred-forty delegates from across the U.S. and twelve other countries take part in the program that focuses on science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Organizers hope students will be able return to Camp Pocahontas next year.

WV state parks making infrastructure improvements

West Virginia state parks will spend over forty-million-dollars in infrastructure improvements. The state will build 230 new campsites. Twenty new cabins are going in at Coopers Rock State Forest and 25 new tree house cabins will be built at Beech Fork State Park.

Medical marijuana extension

More than two-thousand West Virginians signed up to take advantage of the medical marijuana extension program. The state offered a two-year extension to the original one-year card. Health officials say the program will help dispensaries determine the level of interest in the program.

Lawmakers focus on food insecurity

The West Virginia House of Delegates is forming a bipartisan work group to examine food insecurity in the state. West Virginia ranks seventh among states where households report not having enough to eat each week.

Huntington police investigating shooting

Huntington police are investigating after a man was shot near Harris Riverfront Park. He’s in stable condition. Police do not believe it’s connected to another shooting that happened Sunday on Cedar Street.
