Appalachian Power rate increase approved

The Public Service Commission is approving Appalachian Power’s request to add an infrastructure surcharge to your electric bill. The Commission approved a surcharge of over 44-million-dollars. The average customer’s bill will go up over six-percent. The increase will take effect September 1st.

Capital High School coach steps down

Capital High School football coach, Jon Carpenter, is stepping down after a battle with the school board. He is voicing concerns about what he calls inequities between Capital and other Kanawha County football programs.

Charleston cracking down on homeless encampments

The City of Charleston is cracking down on homeless encampments. Encampments behind the Kanawha City Auto Zone and under the Virginia Street Bridge have been given 14 days to be cleared. Once cleared, the city’s CARE program will step in to offer help to the people experiencing homelessness.

Chemical Company is Fined After Belle Plant Explosion

Federal regulators are proposing a $12,288 fine in response to an explosion and fire at a Belle chemical plant that killed a worker and injured three other people. Two-County Investigation Leads to Arrests

Jackson County deputies say two men have been arrested after items valued at more than $80,000 were reported stolen. Galen Cochran and Jerry Smith, both of Liberty, were arrested.
