BridgeValley Community and Technical College has a new president. Dr. Casey Sacks will serve as acting president. Under President Trump, Sacks served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Community Colleges at the Department of Education. She replaces Eunice Bellinger, who received a vote of “no confidence” from the school’s faculty last month.

ACLU wants new needle exchange law stopped

West Virginia ACLU is asking a judge to stop a new law creating more regulations for needle exchange programs. The ACLU says the regulation will force needle exchange programs in the state to shutdown at a time when the CDC has called a Kanawha County HIV outbreak, the most concerning in the nation.

Man arrested for soliciting a minor

A Cross Lanes man is under arrest for trying to solicit a minor under fifteen-years-old online. Kanawha County deputies executed a search warrant at the home of Thirty-nine-year-old James Cribbs, Jr., who will be extradited to Virginia.

Daycare worker faces battery charges

A daycare worker is facing battery charges. Eighteen-year-old Jacklyn Williams is accused of pushing a two-year-old boy to the ground and grabbing his face at Cross Lanes Childcare and Learning Center. A witness captured part of the encounter on video. A former employee reported more than forty abuse claims to DHHR.

Man wanted for attempting to abduct a child

Louisa, Kentucky police are looking for a man who tried to abduct a child. It happened on Gene Wilson Boulevard, near Lawrence County High School. Police are looking for a man with brown hair, facial hair, wearing jeans and a black shirt. Call police if you have any information.

Kenova grocery store fire was arson

The fire that ripped through a Kenova grocery was arson linked to a robbery. The State fire Marshal’s Office says someone broke into the Save-A-Lot took an undisclosed amount of cash, and set fire to the building. No arrests have been made.

Charleston plans for July 4th

The City of Charleston is announcing plans for the Fourth of July. Fireworks will start next Sunday night at 9:45. The twenty-minute show will take place on MacCorkle Avenue across from Leon Sullivan Way.

Birds are dying from unexplained illness

DNR says birds are dying from an unusual and unexplained illness. Officials say the birds are transmitting the disease at feeders and baths. They recommend taking down bird feeders, and to call your district wildlife conservation agency is you come across a sick or dead bird.
