Lack of testing contributes to HIV outbreak

Preliminary data in the investigation into an HIV outbreak in Kanawha County shows there is a high use of emergency department and inpatient services among people who inject drugs, but there is a lack of HIV testing. The CDC has been in Charleston examining potential causes of the outbreak.

Legislators approve $250 million for multiple projects

Tourism and economic development are the big winners from Thursday’s special session. Lawmakers approved the allocation of 250-million-dollars in budget surplus for various projects. The state will spend over 40-million-dollars on state park improvement projects and expanding the Elk River Trail. Forty-eight-million-dollars will go to local schools for improvement projects and building upgrades.

Runaway cows on I-64 after 18-wheeler crash

I-64 is open this morning, after the interstate was shut down for more than six hour last night. An 18-wheeler rolled over in West Huntington, sending more than fifty cows onto the road. The driver escaped with minor injuries. Four cows died and six are still missing.

Kenova grocery store damaged in fire

Firefighters from five different departments responded to a fire at the Save-A-Lot grocery store in Kenova. Damage to the building is extensive. No one was hurt. The building was empty when the fire started.

Huntington Program Helps Homeowners with Free Improvements

Huntington is getting $50,000 that it will put toward rehabilitating homes. The grant funding for Project SHINE will bring improvements to nearly 90 owner-occupied homes this summer with help from one thousand work camp volunteers from across the country.
