FEMA funding available for flood damage

FEMA is in Kanawha County offering assistance to anyone who suffered flood damage in February and March. Federal funding is now available to affected residents in Cabell, Kanawha, Mingo, and Wayne counties. Officials will be going door-to-door today in Sissonville and St. Albans.

WVU will fully open for fall semester

WVU campuses in Morgantown, Keyser, and Beckley will be fully open when the fall semester begins in August. The university is encouraging Students, staff and faculty to get vaccinated, but it is not required. Students will have to verify their vaccination status with university housing by August 1st.

Gov. Justice ready to celebrate on WV Day

This Sunday is West Virginia Day and Governor Justice is ready to celebrate. Sunday will officially end West Virginia’s mask mandate and there is the first drawing in the “Do it for Babydog” vaccination lottery. Weekly prizes include one-million-dollars in cash, custom pickups, hunting rifles and more.

Gov. Justice trying to save jobs at Viatris plant

Governor Justice says he is doing everything he can to save fifteen-hundred jobs at the Viatris manufacturing facility. The former Mylan Pharmaceutical plant is scheduled to close at the end of July and move operations overseas. Some lawmakers propose dedicating 25-million-dollars in COVID-19 relief money to incentivize the company.

WV dropping federal unemployment compensation this Sat.

West Virginia will stop participating in all federally funded unemployment compensation, related to COVID-19, effective this Saturday. That’s a week earlier than the federal government announced it was ending the program. The state’s unemployment has dropped to five-and-a-half percent. Over forty-thousand people are still unemployed.

Kanawha County shooting under investigation

Police are investigating after a man walked into Thomas Memorial hospital with a gunshot wound. The victim was on Smith Creek Road when heard a loud noise and realized he’d been shot. He’s expected to be okay. No arrests have been made.

Copperhead sightings reported at Summersville Lake

There have been numerous copperhead sighting at Summersville Lake over the past few weeks. The U.S. Corps of Engineers says the snakes are native to the lake, and often appear on shore and in the water. Bites can be serious, causing pain and swelling, but human fatalities are extremely rare.

185,000 Have Registered for Vaccine Prizes Ahead of Deadline

Gov. Jim Justice said 185,000 West Virginians have registered for the first vaccine incentive drawing that will offer prizes, including $1 million.
