Hamrick steps down as Marshall University athletic director

Marshall University’s Athletic Director, Mike Hamrick, is stepping down at the end of this month to assume a new role with the university. Jeff O’Malley will serve as interim athletic director. Hamrick will serve as a special assistant to the president. He will focus on fundraising and facilities planning for Marshall’s new baseball stadium.

Charleston lawyer killed in car crash

A Charleston lawyer was killed this week in a car crash on I-79 in Braxton County. Sean McGinley was killed when a vehicle crossed the median and hit his vehicle near Servia. The other driver is recovering at Braxton Memorial hospital.

3-month-old girl still missing

Huntington police are still looking for a three-month-old girl who hasn’t been seen in more than a month. The baby’s father says he turned her over to CPOS workers earlier in May, but CPS does not have the child and has no record of the man turning the girl over to anyone in the agency.

Possible bomb found outside Greenup home

Greenup County police are investigating a report of a possible bomb found in the front yard of a home on Whetstone Road between Greenup and South Shore. A bomb squad from Frankfurt responded to the scene. No one was hurt.

Active COVID-19 cases fall below 4,000

Active COVID-19 cases in West Virginia are below four-thousand for the first time in 2021. The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources is reporting six new COVID-19 related deaths and just over one-hundred-twenty new cases in the past twenty-four hours. More than 680-thousand West Virginias are fully vaccinated.

Miner killed in shuttle car collision

A 43-year-old man died in a mining accident in Raleigh County. The victim was hit by an underground shuttle car at the Horse Creek Eagle Mine. It’s the second fatal mining accident in West Virginia this week.
