CDC investigating WV HIV cluster

The CDC is on the ground in West Virginia to conduct a month long investigation into an HIV cluster linked to intravenous drug use. The number of HIV cases in Kanawha County is among the highest in the country. There were fifty new cases of HIV in 2019, and thirty-five more last year.

State revenue up in May

Moving the state’s income tax filing deadline to May 17th made a difference in the state’s revenue collections for the month. Collections came in more than 150-million-dollars above estimates. The fiscal year ends in a month, and the state is outpace estimates by nearly 390-million-dollars.

Nine men charged in romance scheme

The Southern District of West Virginia is charging nine men in connection to an online romance scheme that defrauded two-hundred people, many of them elderly, out of at least two-and-a-half-million-dollars. The men are accused of creating bogus online profiles to cultivate relationships with the victims and coerce them into sending to various bank accounts.
