WV Legislature passes $4.5 billion budget

The Legislature did pass a nearly four-and-a-half-billion-dollar budget bill. The bill calls for a 28-million-dollar cut to WVU and Marshall’s budgets. State departments across the board are expecting to see cuts.

Gov. Justice will take tax cut plan on the road

Governor Justice says he’s disappointed that his plan to repeal the state income tax didn’t make it through the legislature. The House of Delegates unanimously rejected the bill in what Justice called a “grandstanding kind of move.” The governor says he will hit the road to promote his tax cut plan to the people.

Transgender athlete bill heads to governor’s desk

A bill is heading to the Governor’s desk that would ban transgender athletes from competing in female sports in middle school, high school and college. Governor Justice has not decided whether he will sign it, or let it go into law. West Virginia would join dozens of other states placing restrictions on transgender athletes.

Mylissa’s Law passes in state Senate

The state Senate passed Mylissa’s Law, and the bill now heads to the governor’s desk. The bill would allow family members access to loved ones during a health crisis. The bill is named for Mylissa Smith, who died from COVID complications last October.
