The Kanawha County Commission is supporting the state Public Service Commission in a move to dismiss a rate increase request from Appalachian Power. Commissioners say the five-to-nine-dollar increase in most customers’ bills is not feasible.
Police are asking for any surveillance video that might help in a vandalism investigation in Kanawha City. Graffiti was spray painted on several garage doors. Seven homes and a vehicle were damaged between 53rd and 55th streets along Virginia, Venable and Staunton Avenue.
Police are investigating after shots were fired on Grant Street. Several shell casings were found at the scene. Investigators are looking for two men who were caught on security cameras driving away in a silver Nissan. No one was hurt.
Emergency sirens were activated early this morning across Kanawha County. Metro 911 says it was an accidental activation and there is no emergency. A monthly test is scheduled for today at noon.
The West Virginia Board of Education canceled a special meeting that had been scheduled yestereday. The meeting had been scheduled to address the counties that were out of compliance with the requirement to offer an in-person learning.
