Woman Awaits Sentencing on Wire Fraud Charges

A West Virginia woman has pleaded guilty in a wire fraud scheme. Lois Brotherton of Charleston entered the plea in federal court to conspiracy to commit wire fraud. She also agreed to pay $48,500 in restitution. Charleston Restaurant Week is being postponed because of spiking COVID-19 numbers. The event is normally held the last week of January. Organizers say they will reschedule the event when the can provide a positive experience in a safe environment.

Capito will not oppose Electoral College vote

Congress will vote today to certify the Electoral College results. Republican Shelley Moore Capito will not join the group opposing President -Elect Joe Biden’s victory. She calls the effort in the Senate “an ill-fated journey.” Senator Joe Manchin will also vote to certify the election results.

All 55 WV counties are red or orange

All fifty-five counties in West Virginia are in red or orange on the COVID-19 alert map. Forty-eight counties are in red, and seven are in orange. Health officials are reporting almost 13-hundred new cases of the virus, and forty-six more people have died. There are over 27-thousand active cases of COVID-19 statewide.

Fire destroys WVDOH garage

A fire destroyed a DOH maintenance garage in Randolph. A truck and several other pieces of equipment and tools were inside. No one was hurt. Investigators from the state Fire Marshal’s Office are assessing the damage and trying to determine the cause of the blaze.
