Fire destroys west side home

The Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating after fire destroyed a home on the west side. Investigators say the fire on Wyoming Street was started by squatters. The home had to be demolished.

Kanawha County Commissioners complete canvass

Kanawha County Commissioners completed the canvass of the November 3rd general election, tallying absentee ballots and provisional ballots. More than five-hundred additional votes were counted. The commission will certify the entire election at its regularly scheduled meeting on November 19th.

PEIA holding public hearings

The Public Employees Insurance Agency Finance Board will begin a series of public hearings today on proposals for the next fiscal year. A telephone town hall is scheduled for tonight, and four more in-person meetings are scheduled later this month.

Gov. Justice is optimistic about COVID-19 vaccine

Governor Justice says he is hopeful that Pfizer’s early data show their COVID-19 vaccine is 90-percent effective, and plans to ask the FDA for emergency authorization later this month. Justice says he will “gladly be the first one to take it,” when the experts say it’s ready.

COVID-19 death toll reaches 530 in WV

West Virginia’s COVID-19 death toll is up to 530. Seventeen more people died over the weekend, and more than two dozen deaths were not reported to the state because of a communications lapse. There are over four-hundred new cases of the virus.

Body found in brush fire

The state Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating after firefighters found a man’s body while they were battling a brush fire. The body of an 86-year-old man was found off U.S. Route 60 in Hurricane.
