Turnpike workers taking precautions

Turnpike workers are taking extra steps to help prevent spreading the coronavirus. Toll collectors are wearing masks and gloves, and cleaning their workstations regularly. Employees are practicing social distancing.

Officials working on list of “essential” businesses

West Virginia officials are working on list of businesses that are considered essential and would need to stay open during a broader shutdown. Several other states have ordered the closure of all non-life sustaining businesses. Governor Justice says he doesn’t think those steps will be necessary in West Virginia.

Walmart is hiring

Walmart is hiring 14-hundred people in West Virginia, in response to high demand from the coronavirus. The jobs are in stores, clubs, distribution centers, and fulfillment centers. Workers will be temporary at first, but many will become permanent jobs.

Suspect under arrest in Pikeville shooting

A suspect is under arrest in connection to a shooting at a home in Pikeville. The victim was shot in the leg, and is expected to be okay. He identified the shooter, and police arrested Ryan O’Neal Smith a short time later.

Toyota plant extends shut down

The two-day planned closure at the Toyota plant in Putnam County is being extended to two-weeks. All Toyota manufacturing facilities will close starting on March 23rd and re-open on April 6th. The plants are being sanitized to protect workers. A drop in sales factored into the decision. Workers will be paid during the shutdown.

Hatfield & McCoy trail closing

Governor Justice is order more closures. He’s shutting down the Hatfield and McCoy trails, and all lodges within state parks. The rise of exposure from travelers is too high. State parks will remain open.
