WV Legislature wraps up 2020 session

The West Virginia Legislature ended the 2020 legislative session around midnight Saturday, and approved an over four-and-a-half-billion-dollar budget for next year. The budget includes nearly 17-million-dollars for foster families, and the Senate passed a bill that will put a one-hundred-dollar cap on a monthly supply of insulin for diabetes patients.

Putnam County bridge replacement

Work will begin today to replace a bridge in Putnam County. The bridge on Bills Creek Road between County Route 42 and WV 817 will be shut down for about two months. Detours will be set up on Rocky Step Road and Blue Lick Road.

More than a dozen people involved in Ashland fight

One person is under arrest after Ashland police were called to break a large fight, involving more than a dozen people. Forty-one-year-old Shane Brown is accused of stabbing a man in the leg. The victim is expected to recover. Another man suffered a severe head injury and is in critical condition at a Huntington hospital.

FBI return to Wayne County

The FBI is back in Wayne County. They are searching area where human remains were found last week. The remains were found off of Defoe Road. Investigators are waiting on an ID.

West Virginia Can Now Test for Coronavirus

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources says the state’s lab can now test for coronavirus. Previously, tests in the state had to be sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, creating a delay in receiving results. Wheeling-Charleston Diocese expanding safety program

The Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston is expanding its Safe Environment Program. The Diocese will expand a fingerprinting requirement as part of background check, and a third-party provider will conduct “safe environment” spot checks, site assessments and training.
