A Culloden man, who has been missing since Thursday, was found safe, and is now missing again. Sixty-six-year-old Rick Hensley was found sixty-miles south of Nashville. A new nine-mile section of the Coalfields expressway is open. The four-lane highway runs from Mullens to Slab Fork. It’s part of Governor Justice’s Roads to Prosperity program.
Education Secretary Betsy DeVos was in Jefferson County for a listening session with teachers, parents and students. She was greeted by a group of eighth graders from Charles Town Middle School over video conferencing. DeVos focused on how the unprecedented school year has been.
Senator Joe Manchin is the first Democrat to talk to Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett. He says voting on the nomination should happen after the November 3rd election, to allow time to vet and approve a nominee.
The state’s revenue collection exceeded estimates by over ten-million-dollars in September. The state collected over 420-million-dollars in taxes, which puts revnue 90-million-dollars ahead of estimates for the fiscal year. Governor Justice says the next step is to cut taxes, and eliminate the state income tax.
Police are looking for a missing teenager. Eighteen-year-old Makayla Coon was last seen at her home in Elkview early Thursday morning. Police believe Coon left on her own accord.
A Raleigh County Sheriff’s Deputy is recovering in the hospital after being shot by a man in a car chase. The deputy returned fire and killed the suspect. The officer was shot twice in the chest, but was saved by his bullet proof vest.
Police are investigating a shooting on the West Side. A 21-year-old man was shot in the leg at the intersection of Grant and Glenwood Streets. He’s in critical condition. No arrests have been made.
