The West Virginia Hunting and Fishing Show is canceled for next year. the West Virginia Trophy Hunters Association canceled the 2021 show because of COVID-19 concerns. The show has been a winter time staple for 35 years.

Firefighter battled an abandoned house fire in the Altizer are of Huntington. The blaze broke out at a home between 12th and 13th Streets. No one was hurt. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

FEMA ends lost wages assistance

FEMA is ending the Lost Wages Assistance Program that provides an extra 300-dollars-per-month to unemployed West Virginians. WorkForce West Virginia will continue to pay benefits until existing FEMA funds run out. Regular unemployment benefits are available, in addition to an extra one-hundred-dollars-per-week through the State’s allocation of federal CARES Act funding.

Three more COVID-19 deaths in Kanawha County

Three more people have died from COVID-19 in Kanawha County, raising the state’s death toll to 257. There are over two-hundred new cases of the virus, bringing the total to over twelve-thousand. The state continues to have the highest Rt rate in the country, which measures the spread of COVID-19 from person to person.

More salary cuts at Marshall University

Marshall University is implementing a second phase of temporary salary reductions. The cuts will go into effect in October and will be between one and five percent. Employees making less the 50-thousand-dollars are exempt from the cuts. Enrollment at the University is down almost five-percent.
