Parents and educators from across West Virginia held a virtual workshop to discuss concerns and solutions for reopening school this fall. A new group called “Our Students First” is working with education boards to create a well thought out plan.

Marquee Cinemas temporarily closing

Marquee Cinemas is temporarily closing its doors again. The movie theater has locations across West Virginia, including South Charleston, Huntington, and Parkersburg and closed in March, but reopened in last month. The company says a lack of new movies hurt the cinema’s ability to stay open.

145 New cases of COVID-19

There are 145 new cases of COVID-19 in West Virginia, bringing the total to almost 57-hundred. The death toll remains at 103. More than seventy-five people are hospitalized with the virus, with almost forty in intensive care.

Cities surrounding WV cause COVID-19 concerns

Justice says he’s concerned about the spread of Covid-19 from areas surrounding the state, including Pittsburgh, Columbus, and Baltimore. Federal officials have identified about a dozen cities that need aggressive action to slow the spread of the virus.

Capito expects agreement on stimulus package in 2 weeks

U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito says she expects an agreement on the next stimulus package within the next two weeks. She hopes something will be out before August 7th. Captio is in favor of reducing the six-hundred-dollar weekly unemployment benefit. She says unemployment benefits shouldn’t be more than a workers regular paycheck.

Financial relief coming for West Virginia

Governor Jim Justice says more financial relief is coming for West Virginia. He says there will likely be another stimulus for people who are still unemployed, and he says there will be more money to make sure schools are safe. The state has almost 680-million-dollars in CARES Act money set aside to back-fill unemployment compensation.
