Three COVID-19 deaths in Kanawha County

Eight more people have died from COVID-19 in West Virginia. Three of those deaths were in Kanawha County, bringing the state’s death toll to over two-hundred-twenty. There are more than 250 new cases of virus, raising the total number of active cases to over two-thousand.

Testimony continues in Gatewood trial

Testimony resumes today in Cynthia Gatewood’s trial. She’s accused of stabbing a woman to death in a tobacco shop parking lot in Sissonville in 2018. Jurors saw video of her confession yesterday. It’s the first jury trial in Kanawha County since the pandemic began.

School Clothing Allowance Program vouchers available now

Applications for the School Clothing Allowance Program are available online. The program provides families with a 200-dollar voucher per child to buy school clothes. The pandemic is causing some changes to the program. Instead of a paper voucher, the benefits will be available by EBT card or check.

Morgantown Bars Face Violations

Health department violations were reported at seven bars in Morgantown last weekend for infractions, including a lack of social distancing, not wearing face coverings, overcrowding and for patrons drinking alcohol without ordering or consuming food. FEMA approves unemployment benefits

Additional unemployment relief is on the way. WorkForce West Virginia’s Lost Wages Assistance Program has received approval from FEMA. The program will provide an additional four-hundred-dollars-a-week to people receiving unemployment assistance.

Schools opt out of COVID-19 testing

Governor Justice is offering teams a chance to play if their games are canceled because of COVID-19. He says if players, band members and dance team members all test negative they have a one-time option to play or perform.
