Nine more people in West Virginia have died from COVID-19, bringing the state’s death toll close to two-hundred. There are more than ninety new cases of the virus, and nearly 150 people are hospitalized.

State and county health officials are rejecting a recommendation from the CDC that suggests people exposed to COVID-19 donn’t need to be tested, unless they were having symptoms, are older, or other medically vulnerable. The Kanawha-Charleston Health Department says it will continue to do contact tracing and test people, even if they are asymptomatic.
The remnants of Hurricane Laura are making their way toward West Virginia. The storm will move through tonight into Saturday and we could see some heavy rain and gusty winds. Emergency Management officials are preparing for a severe weather threat.
Heavy rain caused flooding in Nicholas County. Water, rocks, and mud are all over the road on Birch River Road and Dille Road. There are three mudslides in the area. The Birch River area picked up about five-inches of rain in three hours.
A Kanawha County couple is under arrest on firearms charges. Police were looking for an Ohio murder suspect and found him hiding behind some furniture in a family member’s home in the Jordan Creek area. Henry and Laura Harper are charged with prohibited people in possession of a firearm.
A Kentucky man is under arrest following a shooting in Huntington’s West End. Two people were hurt. Twenty-four-year-old Adrian White is charged with malicious wounding.
A Buckhannon man is pleading guilty to a federal bomb making charge. Sixty-two-year-old William Clark admitted to making an unregistered explosive device. He was arrested after an explosion outside of Selbyville Road home in March. Officers found bomb-making materials in Clark’s truck.
About half of the classrooms at Capital High School have seen improvements under a school-wide project. After it’s all complete, the school will have a new roof and a new HVAC system.
