Marshall University’s starting quarterback, Isaiah Green, is entering the transfer portal. Green has been the starting quarterback for the past two years. The Thundering Herd has four more quarterbacks on the roster. Their 2020 season is set to begin August 29th at East Carolina.
DHHR’s Bureau for Children and Families is delaying the application period for the School Clothing Allowance program. It will move to an electronic format to allow recipients to make online purchases to reduce the COVID-19 risk. More than 42-thousand West Virginia families receive a school clothing allowance.
Two more Kanawha County employees have tested positive for COVID-19. An employee at the county prosecutor’s office and a worker in the circuit clerk’s office both tested positive. The facilities are being cleaned and disinfected.
Park Place Stadium Cinemas is closing temporarily over concern in the increase of COVID-19 activity, and due to a lack of new films being released. The theater hopes to reopen in mid-August.
The North Charleston Apostolic Church is suspending services after more than twenty members of the congregation tested positive for COVID-19. The church agreed to voluntarily close for three weeks, and will undergo deep cleaning. Members of the congregation are urged to isolate.
COVID-19 numbers continue to go up…There are one-hundred-fifty new cases, bringing the total to over 45-hundred. A 77-year-old Wood County man has died from the virus, raising the death toll to 98. The state’s positive test rate is over two-percent.
At least sixty members of the House of Delegates are calling for a special session to provide oversight of the state’s COVID-19 response, and the governor’s use of one-point-twenty-five-billion-dollars in federal relief funds.
Census workers will start knocking on doors today of a homes that didn’t complete U.S Census forms. West Virginia is 49th on the list of response rate. Just over 50-percent of homes filled out and returned the form the received in the spring.
The City of Charleston is opening a new Kayak ramp on the Elk River, behind the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center. The ramp is the first of its kind along the river and cost nearly 70-thousand-dollars to build. It’s open to the public from 7 a.m. until sunset.
