COVID-19 spike in long term care facilities

COVID-19 continues to spike at long term care facilities in West Virginia. Kanawha County health officials say more than twenty residents and staff members at the Marmet Center have tested positive for the virus. Major outbreaks are also being reported in Mercer, Monroe, and Taylor counties. Nursing are closed to in-person visits.

Spectator guidelines for fall high school events

The West Virginia Department of Education is releasing some guidelines for spectators at high school sporting events and extracurricular activities based on the color-coded system. More changes in color-coded school re-entry plan

Governor Justice continues to tweak his color-coded COVID-19 reopening plan. Counties with a population under sixteen-thousand will be asses on a fourteen-day rolling average, and counties with higher populations will be assessed on a seven-day rolling average. Man hit by train identified

Authorities have identified the man who was hit and killed by a train earlier this week. Sixty-year-old Keith Rapport of South Charleston died in the accident near the Chestnut Street crossing.

Man arrested in hookah bar shooting

A man connected to a New Year’s Day shooting in Huntington is under arrest in Detroit. Thirty-year-old Kymonie Davis is charged with seven counts of wanton endangerment and malicious wounding in a shooting at the Kulture Hookah Bar. Mother leaves baby in the car during nail appointment

A South Charleston woman is accused of leaving her baby alone in a car seat with the vehicle turned off while she got her nails done. Thirty-eight-year-old Kathleen Vetter is charged with child neglect. Firefighters rescued the eleven-month-old and treated the baby at the scene. The child was released to a family member.

Huntington man sentenced in mother’s death

A Huntington man will spend twelve years in prison for killing his mother in Wayne County. Thirty-year-old Charles Watts killed his mother, 50-year-old Kelli Watts, at her home on Piedmont Road in February of 2018. He claimed it was an accident when it happened.

Suspect wanted in Milton shooting

A man wanted for several shootings in Ohio and Indiana is now a person interest in a fatal shooting in Milton earlier this week. West Virginia State Police are looking for 41-year-old Timothy Sargent. No fans in the stands for WVU home opener

There will be no fans in the stands at Milan Puskar Stadium when WVU opens its football season against Eastern Kentucky on September 12th. WVU has five home games on the schedule and officials say they’ll decide on those games based on conditions at the time.

Spike in COVID-19 cases blamed on travel

There are more than 180 new cases of COVID-19 in West Virginia. That’s the highest number since the end of July. The spike in cases is being blamed on late summer vacations and students returning to college. Another person has died from the virus in Kanawha County.
