Some St. Albans seniors banned from graduation ceremony

Several St. Albans High School seniors were prohibited from attending graduation because they tested positive for COVID-19, or had been to Myrtle Beach in the last two weeks. The group that wasn’t allowed to attend held their own ceremony in the parking lot at Laidley Field.

18 new cases of COVID-19

There are eighteen new cases of COVID-19 in West Virginia, bringing the total to over 26-hundred. The death toll remains at 92, and the positive test rate is below two-percent.

Dr. Slemp resigns at Justice’s request

Commissioner of the West Virginia Bureau for Public Health, Dr. Cathy Slemp, is resigning after Governor Justice asked her to step down. Justice complained at a news conference about the accuracy of COVID-19 figures, saying that the number of active cases is being overstated, and expressed a lack of confidence in Slemp’s leadership.

Kanawha County Magistrate races certified

The final two Kanawha County Magistrate races have been certified after campaign finance issues. Mike Ferrell is now officially the winner of the Division-Seven race, and in Division-eight, Ward Harshbarger was declared the winner.

Man leads police on hour long pursuit

A man with nine-warrants is under arrest after a pursuit that lasted more than an hour. Twenty-eight-year-old Daniel Nelson took off when officers tried to make a traffic stop in Fort Gay. A woman and seven-month-old were in the car, and are okay. After a short foot pursuit, officers took Nelson into custody.

Ten people arrested in drug investigation

Ten people are under arrest in Kenova after a six-week drug investigation. Charges range from drug possession to burglary and domestic violence. One suspect is on the run. Police are looking for 27-year-old Matthew Korff.

One year anniversary of Charleston tornado

Today is the one-year anniversary of the Charleston tornado. It touched down east of Alum Creek, and stayed on the ground for eight-miles. You can still see some signs of damage in the Coventry Woods neighborhood. A second tornado also formed near the Springhill Cemetery.

Kanawha County Commissioners Ask for Stimulus Funds for Small Businesses

Kanawha County commissioners have sent a letter to Gov. Jim Justice’s administration, requesting $10 million in CARES Act funds to support small businesses.
